Russian national killed, another hospitalised after drunken brawl at Rooppur nuclear plant
Another Russian national was hospitalised after the two allegedly got into a drunken altercation at the residential complex for foreign workers of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Ishwardi.
A Russian national was killed and another was hospitalised after the two allegedly got into a drunken brawl at the residential complex for foreign workers of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Pabna's Ishwardi upazila today (3 August).
The incident took place on the fifth floor of Building Six at Rooppur Green City, the residential area for foreign employees working on the project.
The deceased was identified as Kudrin Sergei, 56, who worked as an ultrasonic testing inspector for Trest Rossem, a contractor involved in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
The identity of the injured could not be confirmed immediately, said Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Asadur Rahman.
The body had been sent to the Pabna 250-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
"The exact cause of death will be determined following an investigation. Legal proceedings regarding the matter are underway," the OC said.
According to police and locals, the two men consumed alcohol before engaging in an argument, which later escalated into a physical altercation. Both sustained serious injuries and were initially taken to the Green City Hospital.
As Sergei's condition deteriorated, he was being transferred to Pabna Assort Specialised Hospital, but he died en route. The other remains hospitalised.
