Lightning strike kills three farmers in Savar
Two victims died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital, police say
Three people were killed after lightning struck an agricultural field in Savar yesterday (21 June) evening while they were working there, police and local residents said.
The incident occurred around 5pm in the Konda area of Bongaon union, confirmed Bhabanipur Police Camp in-charge sub-inspector Md Imran Hossain.
Two of the deceased were identified as Din Islam, 45, and Dulal, 60. Authorities were yet to confirm the identity of the third victim as of filing this report.
According to police, the three men were working on farmland when a thunderstorm swept through the area and lightning struck them.
Citing eyewitnesses and family members, police said Dulal and the unidentified victim died instantly at the scene.
Din Islam sustained critical injuries in the strike. Local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he died on the way, police said.
Police official Imran said, "The lightning strike occurred at around 5pm while the victims were working in the field."
He added that they were coordinating with the victims' families and would take further steps following consultations with relatives.
