Dismissed NCP leader Salahuddin arrested over 'derogatory' remarks about PM

The recently dismissed NCP leader, Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Bogura Police over an alleged 'objectionable" social media post about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Salahuddin Tanvir was arrested during a raid today (5 August) from the Monipuripara area in Dhaka in connection with a case filed under the Cyber Security Act, 2026 at Bogura Sadar Police Station.
Confirming the arrest, Bogra DB Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Bahar said Salahuddin Tanvir was produced before the Bogura Sadar Cognisance Court after 11am today.

According to the police and the first information report (FIR), the twice-dismissed NCP leader published an "objectionable" Facebook post about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following allegations of an attack on an NCP street rally in Sylhet on 29 July.
The post was then widely circulated on social media, drawing significant criticism.
However, Salahuddin Tanvir later deleted the post and publicly apologised. But screenshots of the post had already been widely shared across various online platforms.
Following the incident, the National Citizen Party relieved Tanvir of his party responsibilities on charges of violating party discipline.
Subsequently, on 2 August, Maftoon Ahmed Khan Rubel, president of the Bogura Sadar Upazila unit of the BNP, filed a case against him under the Cyber Security Act with Bogura Sadar Police Station, in conncetion of which, he has been arrested.
