Dhaka South distributes healthcare cards to 1,000 sanitation workers
Dhaka South City Corporation has distributed healthcare cards among 1,000 sanitation workers, enabling them and their families to access free and subsidised medical treatment at hospitals across the country.
Dhaka South Administrator Md Abdus Salam handed over the cards today (16 June) under an initiative supported by Harpic, Sajida Foundation, WaterAid and other partners.
Under a programme jointly implemented by Sajida Foundation and Reckitt Benckiser, around 6,000 sanitation workers and their family members will receive healthcare benefits ranging from 50% to 100% at nearly 450 hospitals nationwide.
In addition, Chartered Life Insurance will provide Tk30,000 in financial assistance in the event of the death of a sanitation worker or an eligible family member within one year of enrolment.
Speaking at the event, Salam said sanitation workers play a crucial role in keeping the capital clean and liveable. He stressed the need to ensure their healthcare, safety and well-being through improved access to medical services and the provision of protective equipment.
He also urged city residents to dispose of waste responsibly, saying public awareness and active participation are essential to maintaining a cleaner and healthier urban environment.
