Woman, daughter stabbed to death, son injured over financial dispute in Ctg
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Anwara Circle) Mahmudul Hasan said a preliminary investigation has brought the financial dispute with the neighbour to the forefront
A woman and her teenage daughter were stabbed to death allegedly over a financial dispute at their home in Anwara Upazila of Chattogram last night (13 June).
The deceased were Annie Barua, 40, and her daughter Priyonti Barua, 16. Annie's five-year-old son Piash Barua also sustained stab wounds during the attack.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Anwara Circle) Mahmudul Hasan said a preliminary investigation has brought the financial dispute with the neighbour to the forefront.
However, law enforcement officials are considering various angles in their investigation, he said.
The incident took place between 10:30pm and 11pm in the Chenamoti Barua Para area under Ward No 6 of Paraikora Union.
Surabhi Barua, who lives nearby, said neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing screams at night.
Upon arrival, they found Annie and her young son lying in a pool of blood in front of the door, she added.
They later discovered Priyonti's body inside the house.
Annie succumbed to her injuries on the spot as neighbours were preparing to take them to the hospital, after which the police were notified.
The victim's husband, Sujan Barua, said he was at his workplace in the Khatunganj area of Chattogram when the attack occurred.
He said he rushed home after receiving a phone call from his elder brother, only to find his wife and daughter dead.
Sujan claimed that he had some financial transactions with a neighbour named Limon Barua Tejpriya.
He suspects that the attackers entered the house looking for documents related to those financial dealings.
Sujan claimed that before breathing her last, his wife had named Limon as the attacker.
Upon receiving the information, Anwara police reached the spot and recovered the two bodies.
Following the inquest report, the bodies were sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
ASP Mahmudul said the injured five-year-old child received primary medical treatment and is currently staying with his family.
"The bodies of the deceased bore stab wounds. Operations are currently underway to identify and arrest those involved in the killings, and the process of taking legal action is underway," the policeman added.
