Highway police recovered the blood-stained body of a customs officer in Cumilla this morning (25 April).
The body was found beside the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Kotbari area, on the Chattogram-bound lane near Irish Hotel.
The deceased was identified as Bullet Bairagi, a resident of Tungipara in Gopalganj. He had been living in a rented house in the Rajganj Panpatti area of Cumilla due to his job. He is survived by a nine-month-old daughter.
Confirming the matter, Mainamati Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Mominul Haque said the body has been sent for autopsy.
The exact cause of death will be known after the report is received, he added.
According to family members, Bairagi served as a customs officer under the 41st BCS (non-cadre). Last night (24 April), he boarded a bus from Chattogram to Dhaka. Around 2:30am, he last spoke to his family, informing them that he would get off near Paduar Bazar and head to his residence in Rajganj.
The family alleged that after 2:30am, unknown individuals made several calls using his mobile phone. The phone was later found switched off.
At around 7:45am today, his body was spotted lying on the roadside.
A team from Mainamati Highway Police recovered the body and took it to the police station.
