College student's body found in Khilgaon, husband arrested after 6-hour investigation
They husband Saiful confessed to the killing during primary interrogation.
The body of a college student has been recovered from a house in Dhaka's Khilgaon, with the police arresting her husband in connection with her alleged murder.
Chan Mia, the brother of the deceased, filed a murder case at Khilgaon Police Station today (11 July) after the body of Sanjida Akter Maria, 18, was found in a house yesterday.
Police arrested the husband, Saiful Islam, 21, for the alleged murder.
They said Saiful confessed to the killing during primary interrogation.
Sanjida was found at a house adjacent to Haji Mosque in South Goran with a rope wrapped around her neck.
Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared her dead after she was taken there.
The incident was initially presented as a suicide, police said.
According to the preliminary investigation, the murder was the result of a domestic dispute, particularly disagreements related to Saiful's parents, they stated.
Md Harun Or Rashid, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Motijheel Division, told The Business Standard that Khilgaon police began investigating immediately after receiving information about the incident.
"By analysing evidence collected from the scene, witness statements and technological data, investigators were able to uncover the motive behind the murder within a short time. Preliminary findings indicate that the incident was linked to a family dispute," he said.
Sanjida married Saiful about a year ago. She was a first-year honours student at Lalmatia Mohila College and also worked as a private tutor to help support the household.
Police said the accused has been produced in court, while the investigation remains underway and all aspects of the case are being examined.
