4 DB personnel arrested in Narayanganj over abduction attempt

Four members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police have been arrested for allegedly attempting to abduct an individual by posing as Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj.
According to the case statement, the victim, Amit Hasan, works at the World Health Organization and lodged a case at Rupganj Police Station yesterday (19 June), naming six individuals including the four DB police personnel.
Following the filing of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun Matubbor, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Aman Ullah, Constable Kabir, and Constable Akash Ahammed from Dhaka DB (South) were shown arrested that evening.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon (18 June) in the Gauchia area of Rupganj.
According to Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mehedi Islam, who cited the victim, Amit had arrived in the Gauchia area to meet a relative. During his visit, a group of men identifying themselves as CID personnel intercepted him and attempted to force him into a car.
Hearing his screams for help, locals rushed to the scene and blocked the vehicle.
They managed to detain SI Mamun, ASI Aman Ullah, and Constable Kabir, allegedly subjecting them to a mass beating on the spot, while the other accomplice managed to flee.
Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived at the scene, rescued the three injured DB personnel, and sent them to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex. They were later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Following the victim's formal complaint, the police conducted a raid and arrested the fourth accomplice, Constable Akash.
Police authorities stated that the accused DB members had crossed over from one district to another without obtaining any permission from their higher authorities, adding that an investigation is underway, and necessary measures will be taken based on the findings.
