The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal has appealed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking to enhance Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President and former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu's 10-year prison sentence to the death penalty in a case over crimes against humanity committed during the July Mass Uprising.
The appeal was filed with the relevant section of the Appellate Division today (5 October), International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim told the media.
On 30 June, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Hasanul Haq Inu to 10 years in prison in the case over crimes against humanity committed during the July Uprising.
The prosecution has now appealed the verdict, seeking the maximum punishment of death.
The prosecution argued that the 10-year sentence is inadequate considering the gravity and severity of the offences proven in the case.
