Hearing concludes on BNP leader Aslam's Ctg-4 nomination validity, ruling fixed for 30 June

The appeal hearing over BNP leader Aslam Choudhury's candidacy in Chattogram-4 for the 13th general election has concluded, with the court fixing 30 June to deliver its verdict on whether he can take the oath of office as an MP.
A four-judge appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury completed the hearing today (15 June) and set the date for judgment.

Senior lawyer Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon appeared for Aslam. Aslam's nomination was earlier challenged over allegations of being a loan defaulter.
On 18 January, his nomination was declared valid on the final day of an Election Commission appeal hearing.
The decision was later challenged by a bank through a writ petition, which the High Court dismissed.
The bank authorities then moved to the Appellate Division. Jamaat candidate Md Anwar Siddiqi filed a leave to appeal against the High Court order.
On 3 February, the Appellate Division granted leave to appeal and ordered that the election result would remain stayed until the disposal of the appeal.
