Faridpur NCP leader jailed for 6 months over illegal medicine production

A mobile court in Faridpur has sentenced Md Bayezid Hossain Shahed, senior joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in the district, to six months' simple imprisonment and fined him Tk10,000 for illegally manufacturing medicines and storing expired drugs.
The court handed down the sentence on Tuesday (22 September) evening following a raid on Shahed's factory in Faridpur town. He was later sent to Faridpur District Jail on that day.
The district administration conducted the raid at M/S Janata Laboratories, owned by Shahed, on Molla Bari Road in the Goalchamot area.

Executive Magistrate Insana Tungin Echo led the operation.
The executive magistrate said the operation was conducted for violating Section 6(1) of the Essential Commodities Control Act, 1956.
A large quantity of illegal medicines was seized from the factory, she said.
According to mobile court sources, Shahed had been operating the factory without authorisation since September 2022.
During the raid, officials found the facility producing various Ayurvedic medicines, including baby gel and sexual stimulants for adults. Expired medicines were also reportedly stored there.
Faridpur District NCP Member Secretary Saif Hasan Khan said the party would take organisational action if Shahed was found to have committed wrongdoing.
"We do not compromise with any wrongdoing. If anyone from our party has committed a crime, organisational action will definitely be taken against them," he said.
He added that the party would look into the matter and inform the central leadership.
Shahed, 40, is the son of Habibur Rahman of Alfadanga upazila. He currently lives in the Goalchamot area of Faridpur city.
