Ex-MP Bubly shown arrested in Anti-Terrorism Act case
Various local individuals and local inquiries revealed that Bubly was a financier and instructor of the procession.
Tamanna Nusrat Bubly, a former Member of Parliament (MP) from a reserved seat, has been shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Tejgaon Police Station in the capital.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid granted the police application to show her arrested in the case today (4 May).
State prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi confirmed the matter.
Earlier, on 29 April, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Shafiqur Rahman of Tejgaon Police Station, filed the application to show the accused arrested in this case. The court had fixed today for the hearing in the presence of the accused. During the hearing, the accused was produced in court from jail.
According to the application, during the investigation, questioning of various local individuals and local inquiries revealed that Bubly was a financier and instructor of the procession. It added that it is necessary to show her arrest in the case.
According to the case statement, on 7 September, some individuals from the banned organisation Chhatra League and the organisations whose activities are banned- Bangladesh Awami League, Jubo League, and other affiliates brought out an illegal procession with banners in front of Park Town Restaurant at Monipuripara under Tejgaon Police Station.
At that time, they reportedly exploded two cocktails with the intent to destabilise the state and create panic among the public. Police arrested 10 people as they attempted to flee upon seeing the presence of police, while 30-40 unidentified leaders and activists managed to escape.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed that they were holding the procession in support of banned organisations and demanding the resignation of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to encourage terrorist activities and destabilise the state.
Sub-Inspector Niaz Uddin of Tejgaon Police Station filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act regarding the incident.
It is noted that police arrested Tamanna Nusrat Bubly from the capital's Mirpur on 28 September last year. She has been in jail since then.
