Alex Emon killing: Six placed on 4-day remand
According to the case statement, Emon was hacked indiscriminately by members of a rival gang in the Banshbari area under Mohammadpur Police Station on Sunday.
A Dhaka court has placed six individuals on a four-day remand each in connection with the murder of Emon, also known as Alex Emon, the leader of the "Alex Group" teen gang, who was hacked to death in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Sunday (12 April).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam's court passed the order today (16 April) after a hearing, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman of the prosecution wing confirmed.
The accused placed on remand are Sayed Hossain Shimul, 26; Md Tuhin Biswas, 24; Md Rabbi Kazi, 25; Md Rana, 40; Md Sumon, 26; and Md Russel, also known as Picchi Russel, 25, Mizanur said.
Earlier on Tuesday (14 April), the investigating officer, SI Sadhan Kumar Mondal of Mohammadpur Police Station, produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand for each.
The court then sent them to jail and fixed today for the remand hearing.
Defence lawyers filed petitions seeking bail and cancellation of remand, while the state opposed the pleas.
After hearing both sides, the court granted four days of remand.
According to the case statement, Emon was hacked indiscriminately by members of a rival gang in the Banshbari area under Mohammadpur Police Station on Sunday.
Police later rescued him and took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Emon's mother, Ferdousi Begum, filed the case the following day with Mohammadpur Police Station, naming 21 accused and 10–12 unidentified others.
