Actress Shimu murder case: Witness testimony ends, accused to give statements on 26 Oct
The last witness was the doctor who conducted actress Raima Islam Shimu’s autopsy.
A Dhaka court today (6 October) concluded recording witness testimony in the murder case over the death of actress Raima Islam Shimu, whose body was found stuffed in a sack in a roadside bush in the capital's Keraniganj on 17 January 2022.
Dhaka's Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge Nusrat Jabin Nimmi passed the order, Court bench assistant Saiful Islam confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The court set 26 October to hear the accused's statements. The final witness was Pragya Parmita Dutta, the doctor who conducted Shimu's autopsy at Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.
A total of 20 of the 33 witnesses listed in the case have testified so far.
Shimu's husband, Sakhawat Ali Nobel, and his friend SM Farhad are facing trial in the case.
According to the case statement, police on 17 January 2022 recovered the body of an unidentified woman, believed to be around 32 years old, from a bush beside a road in the capital's Keraniganj area.
Police collected the woman's fingerprints to establish her identity and sent the body to Mitford Hospital for autopsy.
The investigation later identified the woman as actress Raima Islam Shimu.
Investigators found that Shimu had been killed sometime between 7am and 8am on 16 January 2022, following a marital dispute, according to the case statement.
Her brother Harunur Rashid later filed the murder case with Keraniganj Model Police Station.
On 29 August that year, Keraniganj Model Police Station Inspector Shahidul Islam, who investigated the case, submitted a charge sheet against Nobel and Farhad.
The court framed charges against the two accused on 29 November 2022 and started the trial.
