Actor Dipjol sued over intimidation, defamation allegations

A Dhaka court has ordered the Detective Branch (DB) of police to investigate a case filed against actor Monowar Hossain Dipjol and two of his associates over allegations of intimidation and defamation.

Azizur Rahman Tiger, managing director of A One Trading Bangladesh and Dipjol's maternal cousin, filed the case today (26 July) before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahadat. Court Bench Assistant Rasel Khandaker confirmed the matter.

After recording the complainant's statement, the court directed the DB to investigate the allegations and submit its report by 24 September.

Besides Dipjol, the case names his manager Abdul Gani and personal assistant Khokon as accused.

According to the complaint, Dipjol had repeatedly attempted to damage his (Tiger's) personal reputation and business interests out of jealousy over his professional success and recognition at home and abroad.

As part of the dispute, Abdul Gani filed a general diary (GD) with Darus Salam Police Station on 3 August last year, alleging that Tiger was involved in an attempt to remove a signboard from a property known as Navana CNG and replace it with another.

However, Tiger claimed he is the owner of the property and that police found no evidence linking him to the alleged incident during their investigation into the GD.

He also claimed that Dipjol later posted about the matter on Facebook and repeated the allegations in television interviews, newspapers and online news portals.

Tiger further alleged that such statements damaged his social reputation and business reputation, causing financial losses amounting to several crore taka.
