A Chattogram court has sentenced five people, including a former Pubali Bank official, to different prison terms for the looting of approximately Tk55 lakh while it was being transported to the bank's CDA Corporate Branch.
The verdict was delivered yesterday (5 April) by Judge Md Mizanur Rahman of the Chattogram Divisional Special Judge's Court, confirmed Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Rezaul Karim.
According to the prosecution, Bijoy Kumar Das, a former driver at the bank's CDA branch, was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk10 lakh. In default of payment, he will be slapped with additional fines.
In the same case, former junior officer (cash) Rajibur Rahman, security guard Md Ashikur Rahman, Tanjur Rahman, and Mazharul Islam were each sentenced to 10 years in prison, Rezaul said.
Each was also fined Tk10 lakh, with an additional 10-year jail term in default of payment.

Case documents state that on 11 February 2016, Rajibur collected Tk50.5 lakh from the Sheikh Mujib Road Branch in Chattogram city and later collected another Tk81 lakh from the Sitakunda Branch.
While returning to the CDA branch, one sack containing approximately Tk55 lakh went missing.
Following the incident, the then assistant general manager of the CDA branch, Toufiqur Rahman, filed a case at Sitakunda Police Station, as per the case documents.
After completing the investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet against the five accused.
The court framed charges on 16 May 2022 and, following a lengthy trial, delivered the verdict, it added.
