Court frames charges against GK Shamim in Tk75cr CU tender fraud case
Contractor accused of using forged documents and fabricated experience certificates to secure construction contract.
A Chattogram court today (30 August) framed charges against contractor Golam Kibria Shamim, also known as GK Shamim, in a case over alleged tender fraud involving a Tk75 crore construction project at the University of Chittagong (CU).
Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Md Mizanur Rahman framed the charges and set 20 September to record the testimony of the complainant.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Md Rezaul Karim Roni confirmed the development to The Business Standard.

"GK Shamim is currently on bail granted by a higher court in this case. He is the sole accused facing trial and was present in court today," he said.
According to the case documents and ACC records, tenders were invited in 2016 for the construction of CU's sixth academic building, the second building of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
A joint venture firm, The Builders Engineers-GK BL (JV), emerged as the lowest bidder and was awarded the Tk75 crore contract
The firm was subsequently accused of submitting forged documents and falsifying information to secure the contract. The allegations included misrepresenting share numbers and submitting fabricated certificates claiming 10 years of relevant experience.
Then ACC Assistant Director Fakhrul Islam filed the case in November 2020 against GK Shamim and Fazlul Karim Chowdhury, managing director of The Builders Engineers Associates.
However, Fazlul Karim was dropped from the case in the chargesheet submitted in 2025 after investigators found insufficient evidence of his involvement.
GK Shamim is now the sole accused in the case.
