BGB expands drone, thermal surveillance along borders
The BGB on Tuesday opened a specialised training centre to strengthen its capacity to operate drones and other surveillance technology along the country’s borders at the BGB Sector Headquarters in Sylhet.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has expanded its use of drones, anti-drone systems and thermal surveillance equipment along the country's borders as part of the Home Ministry's 180-day action plan to strengthen border security and curb cross-border crimes.
According to a Home Ministry report on the implementation of the plan, which covered the period up to 16 August 2026, the BGB procured five medium-range drones, 50 short-range thermal-imaging drones, 82 surveillance drones and 10 handheld anti-drone systems using its own funds.
The force has also installed 21 night-vision cameras and thermal devices along the Myanmar border and 145 similar devices along the Indian border, significantly expanding its capacity for round-the-clock surveillance in vulnerable areas.

The technology push is part of the government's broader effort to modernise law enforcement and security operations through surveillance technology, intelligence-led operations and digital monitoring.
