Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla appointed president of Bangladesh Women's Sports Association ad hoc committee
Formed under the National Sports Council Act, the committee is tasked with wrapping up the election process within three months and handing over duties to an elected body.
The government has dissolved the previous ad hoc committee of the Bangladesh Women's Sports Association (BWSA) and established a new 29-member body, appointing Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court and a well-known sports organiser, as its president.
The official announcement came via a notification issued today (18 July), signed by Md Daulatuzzaman Khan, executive director of the National Sports Council (NSC).
Formed under Sections 21 and 14(3) of the National Sports Council Act, 2018, with the NSC chairman's approval, the committee is tasked with wrapping up the election process within three months and handing over duties to an elected body.
The key positions and notable members of the newly formed committee are structured as follows:
Vice-presidents: Professor Ismat Ara Haider, Ayesha Siddika Mani, Additional DIG Atiya Husna, Mirza Farzana Rahman Hosna, and Advocate Runa Laila.
General secretary: Sharmin Akter Ratna, a National Sports Award-winning shooter.
Joint secretaries: Sabrina Sultana (National Sports Award-winning shooter) and Syeda Taslima Akter (sports organiser).
Treasurer: Shakti Rani Mondol, a sports organiser and former athlete.
Other members: National Sports Award-winning judoka Kamrun Nahar Hiru, athlete Farhad Jesmin Lity, and former national gymnast Parveen Laila Lucy, alongside several other distinguished athletes and sports organisers.
Following her appointment, Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla shared her appreciation for the government's decision, pledging that the new ad hoc committee will strive to bring visible, enduring, and positive advancements to women's sports across the nation.
