Advance train ticket sales begin before Eid
To ease travel pressure during the holiday rush, 25% of seats will be sold as standing tickets from railway station counters on the day of travel.
Bangladesh Railway has started selling advance train tickets for Eid-ul-Adha journeys, with all tickets being sold online this year.
Assuming Eid-ul-Adha will fall on 27 May, advance ticket sales for trains departing on 23 May began at 8am today (13 May).
According to railway authorities, advance tickets for five days including Eid day will be sold under a special arrangement. Tickets for trains departing on 24 May will go on sale on 14 May, while tickets for 25, 26 and 27 May journeys will be available on 15, 16 and 17 May respectively.
Mohammad Shahidul Islam, joint director (operations) of Bangladesh Railway, told The Business Standard that advance online ticket sales officially began today.
He also said five pairs of special trains will operate on different routes during Eid, while additional coaches will be added to high-demand routes to accommodate increased passenger pressure.
Under the railway's policy, each passenger will be allowed to purchase advance Eid tickets only once, with a maximum of four tickets per transaction. These advance tickets will not be refundable.
To ease travel pressure during the holiday rush, 25% of seats — excluding higher-class categories — will be sold as standing tickets from railway station counters on the day of travel.
Bangladesh Railway will also operate two special cattle trains ahead of Eid to facilitate the transportation of sacrificial animals. The "cattle special" trains will run on 22 and 23 May from Dewanganj Bazar and Islampur Bazar to Kamalapur, Tejgaon and Dhaka Cantonment stations.
