Five emergency diesel import proposals withdrawn from cabinet committee discussion
The proposals included the procurement of a total of 525,000 metric tonnes of diesel from four international suppliers through direct procurement.
Five separate proposals to import diesel through the direct procurement method in response to energy security concerns were withdrawn from discussion at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today (24 June).
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the meeting.
No official explanation was provided at the meeting regarding the reasons behind the withdrawal of the proposals.
According to official meeting documents, the proposals were placed before the committee by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division seeking policy approval for emergency fuel imports to meet the country's urgent energy demand amid an unstable geopolitical situation.
The proposals included the procurement of a total of 5,25,000 tonnes of diesel from four international suppliers through direct procurement.
However, all five proposals were withdrawn from discussion at the request of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division before the committee could deliberate on them.
