25 injured in clash between Brazil, Argentina supporters following football match in Habiganj
On receiving information, police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control
At least 25 people were injured in a clash between supporters of Brazil and Argentina following a football match in Habiganj.
The incident took place this afternoon (3 June) in Kashipur village under Lokhra union of Sadar upazila, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Md Zahidul Hossain.
According to the OC, a friendly football match between Brazil and Argentina supporters was held at the Kashipur playground yesterday afternoon (2 June), in which the Argentina-supported team won 3–2.
Following the match, Argentina supporters celebrated the victory, which led to a chase and counter-chase between supporters of the two sides.
Local elders later intervened and brought the situation under control, although tensions persisted over the result.
The OC said the dispute escalated this afternoon when supporters from both sides became involved in a clash using locally made weapons.
During the confrontation, both groups also hurled bricks and stones at each other.
On receiving information, police from Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control, OC Zahidul said.
"The injured were admitted to Habiganj District Sadar Hospital for treatment," the OC added.
