Milestone tragedy: 2 students released from burn institute; 4 critical among 36 injured
Currently, 36 individuals are undergoing treatment at the institute.
Two students injured in the jet fighter crash at Milestone school campus premises were discharged today (26 July), according to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) authority.
The released students are Ayan Khan, 12, son of Mostofa Bappy; and Rafsi Akter Rafia, 12, daughter of Md Shamim.
Currently, 36 individuals are undergoing treatment at the institute. Among them, four are in critical condition and nine are in severe condition, said Prof Dr Md Nasir Uddin, director of the institute, during a press briefing held at NIBPS this noon.
"Sadly, two more children succumbed to their injuries in the past 24 hours," Dr Nasir Uddin said, adding, "As we previously mentioned, we are starting to discharge patients from today. Accordingly, two students will be released. We hope to discharge another ten next week."
He added that the four critically ill patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with one of them on ventilation support.
Mentioning that a medical board comprising both local and foreign physicians is overseeing the treatment process, Dr Nasir said, "The treatment is being provided under the leadership of our six unit chiefs, with a foreign team supporting them."
According to him, the foreign medical personnel include two doctors and two nurses from India, three doctors and two nurses from China and nine individuals from Singapore, including three doctors and six support staff.
He also mentioned that all necessary medications are being procured in advance to ensure uninterrupted treatment.
