15 injured as Brahmanbaria locals light torches to continue clash in dark
The clash took place yesterday evening between residents of Pashchim Para and Purba Para of Hablipara village in Sarail
At least 15 people were injured after two rival groups in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila clashed at night using torchlights during a dispute that police said began over minor incidents.
The clash took place yesterday evening (26 April) between residents of Pashchim Para and Purba Para of Hablipara village. Injured people received treatment at local hospitals.
Police and residents said the tension began a few weeks ago when Borhan Miah of Pashchim Para went to a shop owned by Shihab in Purba Para to send money through bKash.
They said an argument started after a delay in completing the transaction, during which abusive language was allegedly used. Local residents later intervened and settled the matter.
However, resentment remained between the two sides.
Yesterday afternoon, Shihab and Borhan reportedly became involved in another argument over a football match at a local field.
Following that dispute, Borhan and his associates allegedly attacked Shihab and his friends, according to local residents.
Later in the evening, members of both groups returned and engaged in a clash in the dark using torchlights and locally made weapons.
Witnesses said the area turned chaotic as the two sides hurled bricks and chased each other during the confrontation. At least 15 people from both groups were injured.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sarail Circle) Mohammad Jahangir Alam said police went to the scene after receiving information and brought the situation under control.
He said legal action over the incident was under process.
